Dr. Lowry Shropshire will begin seeing patients in early November.  He is a board certified neurodevelopmental pediatrician with over 30 years experience in that pediatric sub-speciality.  Dr. Shropshire is a native Virginian; he obtained a bachelor of science degree at Virginia Tech and a medical degree at the Medical College of Virginia (now Virginia Commonwealth University).  He stayed on at MCV to complete his pediatric internship and residency.  Further academic training included a year as chief pediatric resident at MCV and a fellowship in developmental pediatrics at John Hopkins University. 

Most of his professional career was spent in the service of the military, both active duty and civilian, with over 32 years of government service.  For the past two decades he has practiced here in the national capital region, serving as a developmental pediatrician at the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center and at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.

Dr. Shropshire specializes in the evaluation and care of children with neurodevelop-mental disabilities including children with concerns such as learning disabilities, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism, cerebral palsy, and sensory abnormalities.  His main academic interest is in the area of learning disabilities, especially dyslexia.

He and his wife, Eileen, live here in Alexandria and have two sons, Nathan and Robert.
